Fly is an approx 18 month old crossbreed rescue dog who is in desperate need of a new home. He is currently under the care of the Dog Warden in South Gloucestershire after being rescued from an abusive and neglectful home. Fly's story is an incredibly sad one and is a heart breaking reminder of the cruelty some people are capable of inflicting without a second thought.

When the Dog Warden visited Fly he was locked away and suffering hair loss, crawling with fleas and was underweight. Unbelievably, Fly's owner said she had rescued him!

Fly needs a calm adult only home where his new owner(s) can show him love and commitment and teach him that humans are his friends rather than his enemies. Fly was very badly treated and can not be rehomed with children. Fly was taken out on the lead and was taunted and beaten by a teenage boy and his friends. As a result, Fly gets very agitated and frightened by the lead and can respond with aggression.

Fly has now been in kennels for 3 months and responds very positively to the Dog Warden which is excellent progress. Fly has been trying clicker training and has got to the point where the warden can hand his lead to someone else and walk without any problems. He has also started to play well to other dogs. The lead is still a definite trigger for him to defend himself though and his owner will need to work to change this.

The concern is that the Dog Warden cannot change Fly's behaviour effectively whilst he is in the kennels - the kennels are for strays and South Gloucestershire Council do not run a rescue centre. Fly has only known misery in his life and really does need a second chance. The Warden is desperately hoping a very experienced dog person who wants the joy of making a dog trust again will come forward to adopt Fly. A rescue or rescue backed foster place would also be very welcome for this boy.

Fly will not be an instant fix - he will be a challenge, but he is incredibly clever and picks up commands very quickly. Without a second chance Fly will have to be put to sleep. Please please help this boy.

If anyone can help please ring Celine 01454 863824 or email dogwarden@southglos.gov.uk. She will consider rehoming Fly anywhere in the UK for the right home.
