This is Luggs, an adorable crossbeed boy approximately 18 months of age. Luggs has been at Plantation Dog Rescue in York since January 2008 when he was found as a stray and was due to be put to sleep in the council kennels.
Luggs is a very friendly and bouncy boy who has come on leaps and bounds since arriving at the animal shelter. He does still need to work on his manners and be taught not to jump up. Luggs is housetrained and likes other dogs and cats. He could be rehomed with children over 10 years old if they are used to dogs. Luggs needs a secure garden and an understanding, firm but fair owner.
Luggs walks nicely but can not be let off the lead because he is deaf - this is a common condition in some breeds of white dog. Deafness is very easy to work around and, contrary to what you might think, owing a deaf dog is not really very different to owning a hearing dog! Hand signals and gentle touch are an alternative to telling the dog the sit or calling their name. A flexi lead would be a good compromise for Luggs.
Luggs is a healthy rescue dog and has been neutured, vaccinated and microchipped.
Plantation Dog Rescue pick up dogs from the council run kennels that are due to be put to sleep. Plantation makes sure strays get the veterinary treatment that they need, including vaccinations, neutering, flea and worming treatments. They also microchip all the dogs and assess them, do some training with them and then find them new homes. Since January 2005 they have rescued and rehomed over 200 dogs from Yorkshire and other areas and completed many people’s families - it is an expensive tasks that relies heavily on donations.
